It's no secret that Chelsea will go big in the summer. The Blues need several key signings, particularly in defence.

BlueCo are expected to pivot away from their usual transfer policy which has seen them predominantly sign young, high potential players. Instead, the sporting department will look to bring in more established, proven players with a winning mentality.

And when it comes to defence, a new centre-back is almost certain. There are several names already being floated, including Nottingham Forest's Murillo.

However, another name thought to be high on the Blues' summer shortlist is a player who was once embroiled in a training ground bust-up with Joao Pedro.

Chelsea considering shock move for Brighton's Paul van Hecke

Prior to Pedro joining Chelsea last summer, the forward spent two years at Brighton.

The Brazilian was one of the Seagulls' best players, and although the south coast team would've have wanted to lose him, they had no choice after he clashed with one of his own teammates.

Pedro and centre-back Paul van Hecke fought on the training pitch at Brighton's Elite Football Performance Centre at the end of last season.

Although the full details of their clash were never reported, Pedro was suspended by Brighton and then sold to Chelsea for £60 million soon after.

However, interestingly, despite Pedro and Van Hecke's previous physical altercation, according to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea are considering a deal that would see the pair reunited.

Van Hecke, who has played in 124 matches for Brighton, has just one year left on his deal, so not only does he fit the profile of player the Blues are after, but he's also be a cost-effective option.

Van Hecke deal would test Liam Rosenior's man-management skills

Managers at all professional clubs are forced to contend with multiple issues, some simultaneously, including player feuds, but when teammates at a top Premier League club clash, it becomes front page news.

Consequently, should the Blues get a deal for a Van Hecke over the line, Liam Rosenior will have his work cut out.

The Chelsea head coach's priority will be to ensure both players can set their past differences aside and work together as the side aim to have a much better campaign next time out.

Chelsea are already under the spotlight after Enzo Fernandez cast his future into doubt so it goes without saying that the Chelsea head coach won't want any more unnecessary drama.
