Following the change in ownership at Chelsea, the club has shifted its focus primarily to bringing in talented youngsters and developing them into world-class players. Although one might argue that this policy has failed more than once, one new signing will surely make the fans feel different, as word is that he could emerge as one of the best players in the world.
Only some days remain before Chelsea’s new signing, Brazilian wonderkid Estevao Willian, officially joins the team. An agreement has been in place with Palmeiras since May last year.
However, it stipulates that the youngster will join the Blues following the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, where he will appear for his current club Palmeiras. And it is a great chance for Estevao to announce his arrival to the world.
Chelsea’s former Brazilian winger Willian recently spoke to ESPN Brasil regarding Estevao. He was all praise about the player and said:
"The player has the advantage of still being so young, but with great potential like Lamine Yamal, they have a similar style.
"I hope that he can be very successful here in England playing for Chelsea, he can win many titles, score a lot of goals with the Chelsea jersey and he will help to win titles over the years."
Chelsea’s new signing Estevao compared to Lamine Yamal
Estevao already has five caps for Brazil and recently earned his first start for the national team under newly appointed manager Carlo Ancelotti. The five-time Champions League winner and former Chelsea manager seems to rate him highly as well. As reported by BBC, he said:
"He's got a special talent.
"He's got character, he's a good person, he's humble, and he seems fine to me, but with a young player we have to be patient and careful.
"He has the characteristics to be very important for the future of the national team."
So, all signs point to the fact that Chelsea have a special talent on their hands. It is noteworthy that securing the youngster was not easy, as Chelsea sealed the 18-year-old’s signature for a £29 million initial fee plus performance bonuses, winning the race against clubs like Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Chelsea didn’t just sign a player, they may have landed the next big thing in world football. If he adapts well to the Premier League, the Blues might have their next superstar and a future club icon. That being said, it is important to give him time to develop at his own pace and not put him under too much pressure from the get-go.
