Although Chelsea received huge backlash after their decision to axe Enzo Maresca and replace him with relative unknown Liam Rosenior, the Blues' latest transfer target proves the club's ownership has full confidence in the former Strasbourg manager.
Despite failing to set the world alight in Ligue 1 during his 18-months in charge of Strasbourg, Rosenior, who averaged 1.75 points-per-game with Les Bleu et Blanc, spoke with real confidence when it comes to his management style and eagerness to develop youth.
When recently discussing his approach to nurturing raw talent, Rosenior said 'manage' is a combination of 'man' and 'age', suggesting he enjoys bringing young players of age. It is now obvious that the Blues' hierarchy is also buying into the 41-year-old's philosophy.
Chelsea's impending deal for Jeremy Jacquet proves Liam Rosenior backing
Even though a total agreement has yet to be finalised, Chelsea, according to Fabrizio Romano, are within touching distance of signing 20-year-old centre-back Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes. It will be what looks to be a club-record transfer of £56 million for the French side.
Viewed as one of Europe's most highly rated young defenders, Jacquet, who has made five appearances for France's under-21s, could be another exciting signing.
Although many signings during the post-Roman Abramovich era have fallen well below expectations, Rosenior's passion for working with young stars will offer real hope that Jacquet can live up to the hype.
Should Todd Boehly and the rest of the Blues' sporting department get Jacquet across the line before the January window closes at the end of the month, very few will be able to argue that Rosenior is not already being well backed.
Jacquet pursuit potential bad news for Benoit Badiashile
Chelsea have six senior centre-backs registered, including Benoit Badiashile, and it could be the Frenchman that is the biggest loser should Jacquet end up signing for the Blues.
The 24-year-old former Monaco defender has struggled ever since he arrived in London two years ago.
Coming under fire after failing to look assured at the back in all of the four Premier League matches he has started this season, Badiashile is far from a fan favourite.
Potentially a direct replacement for the two-time capped France international, Jacquet, who is seen as an upgrade, is likely to immediately go into Rosenior's starting 11 and probably be expected to form a pairing with Levi Colwill when the Englishman finally returns from injury.
