Xabi Alonso makes transfer decision on another defender

Chelsea have been the busiest club so far this summer, and their business is showing no signs of slowing day.

Xabi Alonso has already seen several players depart. Marc Cucurella moved to Real Madrid last month with Andrey Santos joining Manchester United and Everton, respectively.

There is also huge uncertainty surrounding Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine wasn't present for Alonso's first training session and is now heavily linked with moving to Roma.

And continuing his no-nonsence approach, Alonso has told another player he's allowed to leave this summer.

Chelsea tell Mamadou Sarr he can leave

Mamadou Sarr was signed from Strasbourg last summer for £12 million and stayed with the Blues' sister club until the start of this year, but since joining his new side, has failed to nail down a place in the first team.

The 20-year-old made just six appearances in all competitions last season, including starting just once in the Premier League.

His most significant outing came in the UEFA Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain. It was a night to forget for the Lens youth academy graduate though. After he struggled to contain Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the opening stages, former head coach Liam Rosenior had no choice but to replace him at half time.

And according to the Standard, Alonso has already decided the young Frenchman can leave before the start of next season.

Although the new Chelsea manager is set to hold further talks with Sarr to determine his long term future, this summer is likely to see him sent out on loan again.

In addition to Premier League clubs there are also other European clubs interested in offering the 20-year-old a route out of west London.

All change in defence

It's no secret how much Chelsea want to change their defence.

Marco Palestra has already arrived from Atalanta with Alonso handpicking Rayo Vallecano's Pep Chavarria as his preferred replacement for Cucurella.

There also looks set to be a lot of movement at centre-back; a position Chelsea have routinely recruited for but struggled to get right.

As a result, the Blues are working hard to land Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace with the two clubs locked in talks over a possible £60 million transfer.

Lacroix would be a statement signing. Not only was he one of the Premier League's most consistent centre-backs last season, but a solid World Cup run with France has seen the 26-year-old's stock rise.
