Bordeaux are currently sixth in the Ligue 1 table and just five points from a place in the Europa League so they are looking for reinforcements to bolster their bid for the top four. They are also rumored to be interested in  a loan for Arsenal’s Yaya Sanogo. Why Arsene Wenger wants to loan out all of his forwards save for Olivier Giroud the world will never know.

Chalobah had an eventful spell at Burnley but was unable to break in to the first team. He was injured during a U21 match for the Clarets and was hospitalized with what was feared to be a serious neck injury. It ended up not being very serious and was reported to be a bruise to the cartilage in his neck. Obviously anything involving the head and neck will be taken very seriously and it only served to set Chalobah further back on his fight to the first team.

In the end, Nathaniel Chalobah only started one match for Burnley and made four substitute appearances. All five appearances were in the Premier League but it was not quite the top flight experience that Chelsea envisioned when they sent him to Burnley. The Clarets went through an injury crisis and were in real danger of being ruled out of staying up as early as December. They have strung together some impressive results but are still 19th in the table. It is silly of them to think that a player of Chalobah’s caliber would not be an improvement for them but for whatever reason he was never really in manager Sean Dyche’s plans.

Bordeaux are supposedly one of several clubs, along with some Premier League and Championship clubs, that are interested in acquiring Chalobah’s services for the rest of the season. Obviously the Blues would prefer that he stays in the Premier League because him playing there is the ultimate goal of all these loans and development. However the most important thing at this point in his career is to play football regularly and ideally in the top flight.

Even the condition of playing in the top flight can be dropped if he can end up in a good situation like last season when he was on loan at Middlesbrough. If he does make the move to France and Bordeaux then hopefully manager Willy Sagnol will not be afraid to use him regularly. The young Englishman is equally adept at playing center mid or center back and his versatility can be a real asset to a manager who knows how to use him. Even if he ends up in the Championship for the next six months, at least he will play more often than he did while he was wasting away at Turf Moor.
