England
In Everton’s 2-2 draw with Leicester over the weekend, it was Christian Atsu who came on to deliver the cross that would lead to a late equalizing goal for the Toffees. He has been seeing quality minutes as a sub and has also seen Europa League actions as well. Atsu was also named the young player of the tournament for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations and won the award for goal of the tournament. He has been very impressive for Ghana and hopefully he can translate that form to Everton.
Victor Moses stepped up for Stoke City in their 2-1 win over Aston Villa, winning a penalty in the dying minutes of the game and then keeping his head to slot the spot kick home and secure a win for his side.
Middlesbrough’s Patrick Bamford has added one more to his goal tally this season, bringing him up to 10. His latest goal came in a 1-1 draw against Birmingham. The England youngster is more and more impressive every time he takes the field and will be pushing for a Premier League loan very soon. He must prove that he is capable of scoring consistently against the big boys though he did net against Manchester City in the FA Cup. Kenneth Omeruo and Tomas Kalas started that game with Bamford, but only Kalas started in Boro’s next game which was a 1-0 home loss to the legendary club Leeds United.
Nathaniel Chalobah started both games for Reading in the Championship this week, the results ending up in a 1-0 loss to Wigan Athletic and a 1-0 win against Ipswich Town. Chalobah appears to have found a home with Reading and has started eight matches in a row for the Royals. He has yet to prove himself against Premier League competition but another good spell in the Championship is a good place to start.
Germany
Lucas Piazon started for Frankfurt in their loss to Mainz, while Thorgan Hazard played twice for Borussia Monchengladbach, once in a league game and once in a Europa League fixture. Hazard has since completed a permanent move rumored to be worth around 8 million pounds to Monchengladbach, with a buyback clause in his contract.
Italy
Marco van Ginkel continues his sub-par form, only coming in as a late sub in AC Milan’s win over Cesena. He has struggled to overcome injuries this campaign and unfortunately that has been his legacy so far in his short career since leaving Vitesse Arnhem.
Mohamed Salah has been seeing regular starting action since his switch to Fiorentina in exchange for Juan Cuadrado. He has netted two goals in two games for the Italian club, his latest coming in the 84th minute in their 1-1 draw with Torino. He is expected to start again against Spurs in Europa League action this week.
