Chelsea FC‘s Brazilian hit man Diego Costa knows a thing or two about winning coaches with, shall we say, a slight edge to their characters. He was of course managed by Diego “Cholo” Simeone at Atletico Madrid and now he is working with the man that many people believe Simeone gets his style from in Jose Mourinho. Costa raved about his current manager’s “will to win” and how much he inspires him and the rest of the players.

At Atletico Madrid, Diego Costa won La Liga, the Copa Del Rey, and UEFA Super Cup with Simeone at the helm. The first trophy he has won with Chelsea is of course the League Cup in which the striker played a big role in the proceedings. He unsettled the Tottenham defense early on and appeared to get in the head of both Kyle Walker and Eric Dier with his antics.
Most notably of course was his goal in the 56th minute of the match that took the wind out of Tottenham’s sails and effectively ended the match with more than 30 minutes remaining. The goal was eventually given to Walker as an own goal but that does not take away from Costa’s effort to put Chelsea FC in a very comfortable position.
After the match, Diego Costa spoke to Marca about Jose Mourinho and he was full of praise. Costa said, “Everyone knows about Mourinho’s will to win and how that shapes the way he goes about things on a day-to-day basis. It’s amazing. He tells us to enjoy ourselves and give everything. He’s our leader.”
He went on to discuss how important winning the League Cup was and said, “Lifting the Capital One Cup is a very important confidence boost. There’s nothing better when you’ve recently joined a club than winning a trophy. I don’t know if I deserve all the affection the Chelsea fans show me. I always try to give my all and people see that. The same thing used to happen to me at the Calderón: the fans were fantastic”.

Diego Costa is a rare footballer in that he is very humble even after achieving greatness. He scored, or at least put the effort on goal, an important goal in a cup final for Chelsea FC and all he does is praise his manager and give the fans credit for all the love they give him. He appears to have learned that the less a player talks about himself the more the fans and his manager loves him.
Costa has the opportunity to truly make a name for himself at Stamford Bridge and go from a big time player at Atletico Madrid to a global superstar and club legend. The first step is to lift a few more trophies but if he has half the will to win as his manager does then Chelsea FC fans will have no problem bestowing legend status upon the Brazilian.
