Chelsea FC Target Rob Green As Petr Cech Replacement
Following the news that Petr Cech wants to depart the club at the end of the season, the rumour currently doing the rounds is that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is looking to tempt Rob Green away from QPR in the summer to replace him.

The incumbent goalkeeper at Loftus Road has one year left to run on his current deal, and hence if Mourinho makes a move it should come at a relatively small cost. With an asking price of £10 million set for Cech, this could well turn into a tidy piece of business for the West London club.
Green, 35 years old, brings plenty of experience having appeared over 200 times for both Norwich City and West Ham (predominantly at Premier League level) before moving to QPR in the summer of 2012. Furthermore, he has flirted with the national side playing in 12 games for England. This included being given the starting berth for the 2010 World Cup. Unfortunately, any England fan remembers how that panned out.
He was subsequently dropped.
Nevertheless, Green has always been a solid ‘keeper and someone who will be certainly qualified enough to fill the number two slot at Stamford Bridge. Besides, his form this season has been widely hailed as impressive (which is some praise given your team has conceded 54 goals in the League) and a move will probably be see him fulfilling a Schwarzer-esque role.

However, the biggest issue with this deal is that he may not want to take it. Green has started all bar one league game for the R’s this season and a move to Chelsea would in no doubt significantly reduce his playing time, possibly being limited to Capital One Cup appearances. As he reaches the twilight of his career this is potentially something that may not sit well with him.
Alternatively, though, he may see this as a last chance to earn big money and frankly when does money for doing very little/nothing ever sound that unappetising? With QPR destined to be relegated this year the owners are reportedly already looking at cost-cutting options. Therefore, he may not be able to renew his contract for the money he wants if he’s able to renew at all.
Green has shown this year that he is a still a decent goalkeeper, and with the supposed cost-cutting intentions of QPR’s owners, the stars may have aligned for a deal that could satisfy all parties involved. This could be a shrewd move that also allows for a bigger budget for any outfield player that the club needs. Centre-mid anyone?
