Jose Mourinho speaks ahead of Chelsea FC’s Sunday Premier League fixture at West Bromwich Albion

This 2nd consecutive road game will see Chelsea FC try to bounce back from the embarrassing defeat at the hands of Manchester City last weekend. The Blues are looking to register their first win of the season and climb their way back to near the top of the Premier League.

Chelsea have been able to bring in two new signings in the closing stages of the transfer window. Abdul Baba Rahman has come over from FC Augsburg and Pedro from FC Barcelona. Rahman was signed for a reported fee of around €30million while the Spanish winger joined for £21million.

Mourinho expressed his happiness in having the duo in his side during his pre-match presser:

"New players are always welcome so obviously I’m happy both of them have come to us. I know the Premier League doesn’t start tomorrow, it started two weeks ago, but people call it the transfer window and I sometimes call it the opportunity window. While the window is open there is always an opportunity."

The Special One swept in at the 11th hour to take Pedro away from Old Trafford and bring him to Stamford Bridge. Mourinho understands that the season has so far produced nothing for Blues fans to cheer. These signings, however, will give stability to the left-back position as well as providing the extra creativity that the side needs in order to put the ball in the back of the net.

For a player to leave a major club such as FC Barcelona, Mourinho acknowledges that this is due to an ambition to not only win trophies, but to grow as a footballer.

"We got one of the best attacking players in the world, a player with lots of experience and with something I really like very much, which is the desire to leave a giant club, one of the best clubs in the world, a club that normally players don’t want to leave."

The gaffer will now be able to do more with his 10 outfield player combinations. While Oscar has been bitten by the injury bug and Juan Cuadrado has been a failure at Chelsea thus far, the arrival of Pedro can bring some much-needed flair to Chelsea’s attack. Furthermore, it will free up space for fellow Spanish international Cesc Fabregas to work his magic with through balls to Eden Hazard and co.

It is evident that the two signings have done much to lift the mood around Stamford Bridge, and perhaps this is reflected in the improved training level that Mourinho has noticed.

"We normally train very well but this week we trained better than ever. Why? Because we are not happy. I’m not happy with the results and the players are not happy with the results. We want to do better and there is only one way, which is to work well and better than ever, which we did this week."

Mourinho knows that if Chelsea FC are to have any success this season, they must train well and work for positive results. A trophy-less season is always a failure at Stamford Bridge but given the dreams of Champions League glory that the Blues harboured entering the campaign, it may hurt even more this time.

Having said that, if all goes to Jose’s plan, Chelsea will be leaving The Hawthorns with 3 points in hand and a season back on track.
