A pair of Chelsea FC loan stars got a goal for Vitesse this past weekend

Chelsea FC youngsters Lewis Baker and Dominic Solanke grabbed a goal each on Sunday as Vitesse thrashed SC Cambuur Leeuwarden 4-1 in the Eredivisie. The result saw the club climb to seventh place in the league table.

Vitesse hosted Cambuur in their fourth game of the season. After an indifferent start to the campaign in which they have registered each possible result, they were hoping to take advantage of their relegation-threatened opposition.

Chelsea’s favourite loan destination dominated the contest, taking 17 shots and winning 8 corners. Baker opened the scoring with a well-taken penalty after another Chelsea loanee in Nathan was brought down inside the box. The midfielder drilled the spot kick into the right hand side of the net to give Vitesse the lead in the 2nd minute.

Although Baker would miss a second penalty, this was his second goal in four appearances for Vitesse. As the designated spot kick taker, he converted one a couple of weeks ago in a 3-0 defeat of Roda JC Kerkrade.

Abiola Dauda added Vitesse’s second before half-time to put the club back in front, and Guram Kashia netted the third with time winding down.

However, there was still room for a fourth as Solanke would add his name to the scoresheet after replacing Dauda in the 75th minute. The 17-year-old latched onto a ball over the top and cut in with a deft touch from his head. This essentially left him one-on-one and he took care of the rest with a right-footed strike into the bottom left corner.

Isaiah Brown, meanwhile, would also feature as a late substitute in the fixture.

These players are just four of the many Chelsea footballers currently on loan away from Stamford Bridge. Yesterday, the Blues announced two more loan deals that would take this season’s tally to 28. Jeremie Boga will head to Stade Rennais for the season while Lucas Piazon will stay closer to home with a move to Reading.
