Chelsea FC Loanee Victor Moses Stars For West Ham, Rubs Salt Into The Wounds

Victor Moses looked awesome in his West Ham United debut, much to the annoyance of Blues fans everywhere

Chelsea FC offloaded winger Victor Moses to West Ham for the duration of the 2015/16 campaign on transfer deadline day. Moses made his debut last night for the Hammers and looked awesome. Sigh…

Chelsea did a bit of business on the last day of the transfer window, albeit not much was significant. However, one deal that did catch the eye was the club’s decision to allow Moses to leave Stamford Bridge on a temporary basis. With the Blues having garnered only four points from four games at that point, it certainly struck me as bizarre that the management regarded him as surplus to requirements given the poor performances of the other wingers.

Furthermore, Moses was arguably the most impressive player during pre-season. He played with flair and enthusiasm and seemed invigorated by his successful loan spell at Stoke City the season previous. After Jose Mourinho refused to include him in any agreement for Asmir Begovic, the Nigerian must have believed that he had a chance of a receiving significant playing time this season.

Evidently, that wasn’t the case and after Chelsea lost their third game of the season to Everton, Moses did his best to show why the club made a major mistake in not affording him an opportunity at Stamford Bridge.

Moses played a large part in an excellent West Ham performance that saw them defeat Newcastle United 2-0. The perennial loan star did not register on the score sheet, but put in an incredibly tenacious and skillful show down the left flank.

The winger attacked with confidence and remarkable speed, continuously causing problems for the Toon defenders. The highlight of his game was probably the run that led to Dimitri Payet’s second goal.

After a pathetically under-hit Newcastle free-kick, the clearing header bounded towards the half-line. Moses tracked it down and set off like Road Runner, holding off the challenges (both in terms of physicality and speed) from both Vurnon Anita and Massadio Haidara.

Moses then pulled up and cut inside in a move that left Haidara on the floor. He unleashed a shot with his right foot that agonisingly struck the crossbar. Payet was there to mop up and grab the goal for himself.

How much would Chelsea give for Moses right now? The way in which he was willing to run and take on defenders is something that Blues fans are yet to see this season. While Chelsea have floundered at the back and lacked creativity up front, the Nigerian showed how far a bit of audacity can take you in the modern game.

Also, I knew he had a bit of pace, but man he looked quick last night.

Now, Chelsea fans would have been happy for the winger given the honesty and professionalism that he has displayed during his time with the Blues, but they were unsurprisingly irritated too…

What’s more, Moses reportedly rejected a mid-season return to Stamford Bridge last season and thus it will be unlikely that he would agree to anything similar this time around.

The good news, though, is that he signed a new contract before departing, meaning that he has another four years left at Chelsea. That is good, right?

Oh well, Moses’ game highlights are below. Skip to 4:04 for the aforementioned run.
