The boss has addressed the Radamel Falcao exit rumours.
Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho has fielded questions regarding Radamel Falcao’s possible departure from Stamford Bridge. Rumours have surfaced that the striker is pushing for an exit after being left out of Saturday’s matchday squad.
Falcao has been afforded limited opportunities in this campaign and there are claims that he may force an early termination of his season-long loan. Mourinho, though, was coy when discussing the allegations.
"I don’t know if it is true because Falcao has said nothing to me and I speak with him every day. It is quite strange the press knows something I and the club don’t know."
The Blues took a punt on the Colombian after he had an embarrassingly poor campaign on loan at Manchester United last term. With Chelsea looking for a backup striker and AS Monaco offering decidedly better terms than those that Ed Woodward agreed to, the Stamford Bridge brass agreed to a year-long deal.
Unfortunately, the bet has failed to pay off as Falcao has been unable to break out of his terrible streak. Despite scoring a goal, his performances have been both hapless and hopeless. Loic Remy was preferred to the Colombian when Diego Costa was suspended and Falcao appears to have become Mourinho’s third-choice front man.
However, the boss did also discuss how the Colombian may be able to force his way into the starting line-up.
"What does he have to do to play more? He has to give more than everyone because we play with one striker and I look only at performance level, and the best one plays."
Falcao can frankly have few complaints about his treatment. With Diego Costa as the evident line-leader, the Colombian is in a battle with Remy for the first deputising role. Especially given his poor form last season, Falcao needs to go above and beyond to prove that he can be trusted as the sole striker in a Premier League game.

Furthermore, should these rumours be based on fact than Falcao may be set for a very long year indeed. His loan termination would require Monaco’s agreement, and thus would also require them to pick up the burden of his wages. The French club had loaned him out as they were unable to service his pay so it seems unlikely that such a scenario will occur.
Mourinho’s mind, meanwhile, will be focussed on tonight’s crucial Champions League tie with Dynamo Kiev. The Blues are sitting third in the group with the next two consecutive games against the Ukrainians pivotal in their bid to progress. The manager, though, is not bothered about the circumstance.
"We just want to win the next match."
Well said.
