The Chelsea FC boss responds to increasing transfer rumours.
Blues manager Jose Mourinho sat down with the world’s media earlier today for his customary pre-match press conference. Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Norwich City on Saturday, Mourinho denied reports that he will be bringing in new faces in January.
The transfer rumour mill has kicked into action over the international break as we move towards the opening of the winter transfer window. The Blues have been linked with various ins and outs, understandable given their current struggles, but the boss has faith in his incumbent squad’s quality.
"I’m happy with my players and will not ask the board to make any changes in January."

That should put an end to that then.
Or not. Chelsea are going through a patch as rough as any that I can remember and they are showing no indications of turning matters around. The defence has been almost non-existent (23 goals conceded in 12 league games) while the attack have displayed teeth as sharp as a spoon.
With seven defeats in the competition that they are defending, Chelsea find themselves in 16th position in the table.
A lack of credible transfer activity during the summer has been cited as one of the reasons for the club’s slump. A failure to stimulate fresh competition for starting spots within the squad allowed some players to begin the campaign in a lacklustre and disinterested fashion.
Poor results and the associated effects have since embedded themselves in the mentality of the team and thus they seem unable to break out of this run.

Consequently, it has been suggested that Chelsea will consider bringing in the odd player in the mid-season window as they try to secure Champions League qualification.
Recent reports have linked the club with the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi. On the other side, Diego Costa and Radamel Falcao have been subject to departure speculation.
Even previously untouchable superstar Eden Hazard has been linked with a move away to French giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Mourinho’s declaration may well be the truth, or it could be an attempt to bolster the confidence at Cobham. The fact of the matter is that while Chelsea may not be Premier League-winning material this season there is no reason to not finish in the top four. The squad is certainly decent enough for that.

However, with the poor start it will take something special to reach such heights. It will be interesting to see whether Mourinho stands by his words if results don’t improve in the next few weeks.
Hell, he may not even be there to do so.
