Centre Back: John Terry

How many footballers have a nickname as cool as John Terry? His faithful fans call him ‘Captain, Leader, Legend’ and they mean it. Not only is he one of the best defenders to play for Chelsea FC, he is perhaps the best defender to ever play in the Premier League. His longevity is impressive on its own and is even more so when his consistently high performance level is taken into account.

Terry has his fair share of critics but that criticism rarely, if ever, spills out onto the pitch. A player who never relied on his pace, Terry instead used his brilliant footballing mind to read the game, nearly always being in the right place at the right time. He has been an ever-present figure at Chelsea since graduating from the youth academy to the senior team in the early 2000s.

The Englishman is the only player in the current squad who experienced life at the club pre-Abramovich and he has been there for many of the club’s greatest ever moments. Unfortunately he missed the Blues’ European triumph in 2012 but his trophy cabinet is bursting at the seams. Terry is third all-time in appearances for the Blues and while his tenure at the club may be coming to an end soon, he will always be remembered as the heart and soul of Chelsea FC.
