Guus Hiddink Dismisses Transfer Talk, Willian Comments On New Deal
With the transfer window in full swing, Guus Hiddink has delivered his verdict on buying players in January. Willian, meanwhile, has discussed a potential new Chelsea FC contract.
Chelsea have been linked with a multitude of players since the winter transfer window opened. The club’s poor form and desperate situation have inevitably caused them to be the subject of much speculation, but interim boss Guus Hiddink insists that they will not panic-buy.
"You must be rather desperate to bring in players in January. But Chelsea must look at today’s situation and also the upcoming summer situation regarding signings, so you must be careful now not to do stupid things. – via The Telegraph"

While the Blues are certainly one of the more desperate clubs out there, Hiddink has a point. There is little reason to splash the cash on an overpriced striker, especially given the club’s position. It is hard to believe that relegation is a realistic prospect, but the top four and/or silverware in the cups is improbable as well. Hence, it is worth pondering what exactly a new arrival would help with. A push for a top half spot?
Consequently, it seems narrow-minded to fork out ridiculous amounts of precious transfer money at this point. Furthermore, in January the top quality players are seldom available and thus the Blues would be overpaying for someone they likely wouldn’t consider in the summer.

Hiddink went on to claim that he prefers to promote the youngsters as opposed to ship others in. Although he appeared to be continuing down Jose Mourinho’s path of not utilising them, the recent involvements of Kenedy and Ruben Loftus-Cheek is encouraging.
As mentioned, Chelsea have little to lose in the Premier League and thus providing these promising talents with invaluable first-team game time and experience could make all the difference to their career.
Sticking with somewhat transfer-related matters, Willian has commented on reports regarding a new contract on the back of his heroic displays this term.
"I want to stay…I tend to not get involved in that side of things too much. I leave it up to my agent to deal with it but the club knows exactly how I feel. – via The Sun"
Despite being only about halfway through his five-year deal, his stellar performances so far this season have more than warranted a fresh agreement with a higher salary. It also gives the club an opportunity to tie down their star man through 2020 and beyond.
