With John Terry currently on track to leave Chelsea FC at the end of the season, the Blues are reportedly lining up Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin as his replacement.
John Terry recently announced that he would be leaving Chelsea at the end of the season, after the Stamford Bridge officials informed him that there would be no contract extension forthcoming at the moment. As a result, the Blues have been linked with a number of potential replacements, with Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin being one of the stronger candidates.
The Metro reports that the Uruguayan is high on Chelsea’s list and that they are seriously considering an approach for him over the summer.
"Chelsea are touting the idea of making a move for Atletico Madrid central defender Diego Godin as a potential replacement for club captain John Terry."

Terry has continually reinforced his desire to stay at Stamford Bridge in a series of emotional interviews, but there is yet to be any material progress made on the matter. The club’s stance has been widely panned as ridiculous, but the backlash doesn’t seem to have affected them so far.
Consequently, Terry is on his way out at this point in time and attention must now be turned to finding a replacement. The defender’s deaprture would leave the likes of Branislav Ivanovic and Gary Cahill as the sole senior players in the team and given the recent performances of either, it is not a very exciting prospect.

The arrival of Godin, though, would be significant. The 29-year-old has developed into Diego Simeone’s most trusted man while pundits and fans familiar with Spanish football even claim that he is best defender in the world right now (I back that).
However, given all this, Atletico are not likely to part ways with him for anything other than royal compensation. Godin has formed a somewhat formidable partnership with fellow countryman Jose Gimenez and the duo look set to drive one of Europe’s meanest defences for the foreseeable future.
Furthermore, Atletico finally appear to be turning a corner with regard to their transfer policy. Previously a club that would sell their top stars for the right money, they have now become a premier destination for the world’s finest. As a result, they are less willing to move players on and, more importantly, the players themselves are reluctant to depart.

Especially with Chelsea’s current struggles, it seems unlikely that Godin would swap an exciting, Champions League-challenging outfit for a team rapidly losing its senses.
