Chelsea FC had a comfortable afternoon as they cruised past a hapless Newcastle United 5-1. Here are all the Blues goals from the contest.

Seemingly a bogey team for Chelsea, Newcastle United would have wanted to pose a bigger challenge than what was witnessed this afternoon. On the back of arguably their best display of the season, Steve McClaren’s men disappointed in all departments and the game was essentially over by half time.

Diego Costa, Pedro, Willian and Bertrand Traore all hit the back of the net for the Blues, while Eden Hazard could have bagged one for himself as well. Safe to say it was pretty convincing.

Costa opened the scoring early on, putting Chelsea ahead with just five minutes on the clock. Willian played a lovely weighted ball to slip the Spaniard in and reminiscent of his form last season, he finished it clinically.

It was a top run from the marksman, who continues his impressive recent purple patch. With all this, it does make you wonder yet again where the hell he disappeared off to in the first half of the campaign.

Pedro received the start today as Oscar dropped to the bench. The much-maligned summer signing almost immediately justified Guus Hiddink’s decision as he doubled the Blues’ lead just four minutes later. Newcastle were defensively awful throughout the clash and this mistake from Rolando Aarons summed it all up.

To be fair to Pedro, he was alert and read the pass. His pace allowed him to nab in front of the intended target and motor off towards goal. A very cool left-footed finish completed the move. While watching live it appeared as if the winger had taken it too early, but he evidently knew what he was doing.

The third goal was registered on the 17th minute mark. Costa beat Fabricio Coloccini in a foot race after a ball was played over the top. Meanwhile, Willian was busting a lung in order to provide his isolated teammate with an option. As he approached the box, the striker played a delightful pass into the Brazilian’s path.

It was an easy finish for the crazy-haired winger that more or less secured the three points for the hosts.

The Blues would not be finished, though, as they added two goals in the second period. Pedro doubled his tally for the day in the 59th minute as Fabregas demonstrated his passing range. The Spaniard was in the deeper role this afternoon and he picked out a perfect ball to find his fellow countryman. However, the touch from Pedro made the goal, as he chested it expertly into his path leaving him one-on-one yet again.

The fifth goal was arguably the best one, as Bertrand Traore finished off a great passing move. Cesar Azpilicueta linked up with Eden Hazard for a one-two before he played a neat cross into the six-yard box. Traore got on the end of it to place the ball into the bottom left hand corner.

It was all in all a top day for the Blues. The fans in attendance were treated to a free beer ahead of kick-off before being entertained by some champagne football on the field. PSG awaits on Tuesday.
