Eden Hazard has made a bit of an error in the run-up to Chelsea FC’s Champions League clash with PSG, by fuelling rumours regarding a switch to Ligue 1.

With Chelsea’s current predicament, many Blues fans are fearing that their top stars will push for an exit in the summer. Having said that, equally as many are hoping that several players depart anyway. Whatever the sentiment of the supporters, Eden Hazard’s failure to quash transfer speculation ahead of the club’s Champions League meeting with PSG will do him no favours.

Speaking to French newspaper Le Parisien, the Belgian admitted that it would be hard to turn down an offer from a club like PSG, should they ever come knocking.

"[It is] difficult to say no to PSG, or to any of the teams capable of winning the Champions League. PSG are now in that category. And for me, winning the Champions League is my main aim. – via The Guardian"

Oh dear. Hazard has been in poor form throughout the entirety of this campaign, failing to find the magic that won him numerous accolades last time out. While he has somewhat improved in recent times, he is no longer the star on this Chelsea team, with players like Willian deservedly stealing the limelight.

His situation has only furthered speculation that a club of Real Madrid and PSG’s stature are lining up a big money summer move for the winger. Hazard’s comments will now cast an even longer shadow over his Stamford Bridge future.

While players are, of course, free to move clubs under the appropriate circumstances, Blues fans will undoubtedly find these remarks quite insulting. The Belgian has been as much to blame for Chelsea’s failures as any other squad member, so the fact that he is willing to switch clubs before helping to rectify the situation appears classless.

Furthermore, he also seems to suggest that Chelsea are not a Champions League-winning outfit. While this is probably true at the moment, the comments are rather distasteful for the same reason provided above.

Hazard attempted to cover his back by claiming that he is not currently seeking a move, but the damage has already been done. Whether the remarks represent his true feelings, or whether he simply let his guard down, his words will now linger over his head for the rest of the campaign.

Diego Costa can be held up as an example of a player who has done much to win back the support of the Blues fanbase. Hazard is an example of someone who has done exactly the wrong thing.
