Chelsea FC 5-1 Manchester City: Five Talking Points
5. FA Cup Prioritized
It would take a modern miracle for Chelsea to finish in the top four, and earn automatic qualification for the UEFA Champions League. In that very competition, they face a 2-1 deficit to Paris Saint-Germain, which is possible to overcome, but difficult nonetheless. With that being said, it’s clear that Guus Hiddink has prioritized winning the FA Cup, and giving the fans silverware to celebrate after potentially disappointing league and European campaigns.
This was shown in the starting eleven, as the same team that faced PSG last Tuesday started against City. Looking forward, the Blues now face what will undoubtedly be a tough trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton in the quarter-finals. Roberto Martinez’s men have been underwhelming in the league and thus will use the FA Cup as a way to reward the Toffees faithful for their support and patience.
