Chelsea FC youngster Andreas Christensen was honoured last night as he was handed his full senior team debut for Denmark in their friendly against Iceland.

Denmark will not be travelling to France for this summer’s EURO 2016, but they still have a couple of games during the international break. Chelsea FC defender Andreas Christensen was called up to the senior squad for the week and was rewarded with his full Danish debut last night.

Age Hareide’s men hosted Iceland in a friendly yesterday evening and the Blues player was given the start at centre-back alongside captain Daniel Agger and Simon Kjaer. The 19-year-old has spent this season on loan with Borussia Monchengladbach and has thoroughly impressed. Evidently recognising his progress, the Denmark boss gave Christensen his first start for the national senior team.

Fortunately, the youngster played the full 90 minutes and impressed, with Denmark emerging as 2-1 victors. With this first game under his belt, Christensen will be looking to kick on and establish himself before the 2018 World Cup qualification campaign begins.

The Blues prospect has been a revelation in Germany this season, contributing significantly to Gladbach’s push for a Champions League spot. He has played in 24 out of their 27 games, all of them as a starter. Furthermore, his performances have resulted in rumours suggesting that the Germans want to sign him on a permanent deal.

Hopefully, Christensen will return to Stamford Bridge over the summer and, more importantly, be used in the senior team going forward. With John Terry on his way out and Gary Cahill ageing, there are spots that need to be filled in the defence. The Dane should be one of the solutions utilised.
