Three Chelsea FC players were recognised for their quality by leading their respective national teams last night in a mixed bag of results.

We are just about halfway through the international break, you will be delighted to hear. Saturday night saw a bunch of Chelsea FC players represent their countries at various levels, with three of them being honoured with the armband. Defender Gary Cahill led England, while Trevoh Chalobah and Ali Suljic captained their respective outfits as well.

It was a glorious evening for the Three Lions in Berlin, as Cahill took up the role of lead veteran in a dramatic 3-2 victory over Germany. With Roy Hodgson’s team full of young and exciting talent, Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Eric Dier hit the back of the net in the last 30 minutes to overturn a 2-0 deficit.

The Blues centre-back was neither spectacular nor awful and he lasted the full 90 minutes. As Hodgson prepares to employ this new generation of England players at EURO 2016, Cahill will be expected to lend an experienced head in the dressing room and on the pitch.

Trevoh Chalobah, meanwhile, underlined his potential by being handed the armband for the England U-17 side. He was at front of a Chelsea-heavy team, as the youngsters defeated Finland 1-0. This keeps them on track for qualification into the European U-17 Championships later this year.

Jamie Cumming, Mason Mount and Dujon Sterling were other Blues prospects who featured in the victory, further indicating the impressive English talent within Chelsea’s youth set-up.

The last of the three captains was 18-year-old Ali Suljic. The defender captained Sweden’s U-19 side but he could not help them avoid defeat. Slovenia emerged as 3-1 victors to leave Sweden’s European U-19 Championship qualification campaign in tatters.

Elsewhere, Izzy Brown and Tammy Abraham played for the England U-19s in their 1-1 draw with Greece. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Lewis Baker and John Swift also played for the U-21 outfit as they could similarly only manage a 1-1 draw with Switzerland.

Once again, Chelsea are proving to have a deep pool of talent bubbling away in their academy. After years of seeing no end product, Blues fans will be hoping that some of these youngsters will eventually get a chance to pull on a blue shirt for the senior team.
