Riyad Mahrez could be following his former Leicester City teammate, N’Golo Kante, to Stamford Bridge. Such a move could signal the end of Chelsea’s summer activity.
Chelsea continue to be linked with a multitude of players as Antonio Conte slowly shapes his squad for the 2016/17 season. The latest story sees Riyad Mahrez appear on the club’s radar as he reportedly wants to leave Leicester City. Could he follow in N’Golo Kante’s footsteps?
According to the Daily Express, the PFA Player of the Year is contemplating parting ways with the Premier League champions. Chelsea are interested in seizing the opportunity to capture a second Leicester star this summer.
"Chelsea have completed the signing of £32million Leicester midfielder N’Golo Kante and are now planning a second raid on the Premier League champions for winger Riyad Mahrez."
N’Golo Kante’s arrival was officially confirmed on Saturday, with Chelsea bringing one of last season’s standout players to Stamford Bridge. However, the move has weakened Leicester’s standing, causing Mahrez to consider a departure as well.
It is believed that the Foxes have already tried to tie the Algerian down to a new contract, but he is yet to sign.
The acquisition of Riyad Mahrez could result in Conte piecing together the last part of his jigsaw. Michy Batshuayi has been brought in as a striking reinforcement, N’Golo Kante has arrived to boost the midfield and defence, Mahrez can provide the creative injection.

The forward was incredible for Leicester last year as they marched to Premier League glory. He seemed untouchable at times, gliding past opposition players with unimaginable ease.
His impressive performances led to him justifiably being named PFA Player of the Year, in the face of hot competition.

Despite a disappointing start to pre-season, Chelsea’s team is shaping up nicely on paper. A number of new arrivals were expected over this summer, but Mahrez could be the last major signing.
The club will likely be on the lookout for another defender, given the evident limitations at the back. As for big-money deals, Mahrez could represent the final marquee acquisition.
With three years left to run on his Leicester contract, significant sums will be needed. The Foxes managed to hold out for over £30 million in return for Kante and they will certainly be expecting hefty compensation for their winger.
Chelsea, though, will be wise to seriously consider an offer. As Conte looks to get the Blues back into the Champions League, expenditure is needed to compete with their talented rivals.
