After defeating West Ham, Chelsea showed desire and Antonio Conte showed all his #Passion. Yet the Blues remain underdogs in the title race.

Despite an all-consuming presence during matches, Antonio Conte’s managerial take-over has gone largely under the radar. Chelsea fans remain gripped with expectation about what the Italian can achieve this season, while the British (and world) media seem occupied by the arrival of other managers.

A certain ex-lover of Chelsea’s, Jose Mourinho, is doing what he does best: nabbing headlines. Of course, as Blues fans are well accustomed to, Mr. Mourinho draws (loves) the attention. There have been a remarkable amount of stories already involving him since he moved to Manchester.

Headline, after headline, after headline, after headline. It’s utterly ridiculous remarkable.

The majority of the rest of the stories are taken by the blue side of Manchester, where Pep Guardiola now leads.

Between these two and the questions surrounding Arsene Wenger and whether or not Leicester can repeat their success, the West Londoners appear largely pushed to the back pages.

For someone borderline crazy during matches, Antonio Conte comes across succinct and understated off the pitch.

The Italian has already mentioned that he doesn’t like to talk about other teams players, while his press conferences have been humorous, if unremarkable.

As of the 15th August (post-West Ham match), the Blues are third favourites for the title. On bet365 they are 5/1 to return to the top, behind only Manchester City (2/1) and Manchester United (3/1).

Antonio Conte will be fine with this. Most people have the attitude of “Meh, Chelsea should get top four and maybe chall…. oooo look what Mourinho’s said now”.

For Conte, sure, focus on them. Focus on Arsenal’s lack of striker, or on how Leicester handle the Champions League.

The club could use a couple more signings with the defense needing some work. Chelsea needs to reinforce the centre-back position and whichever full-back side Cesar Azpilicueta doesn’t play on. Another striker may be necessary for when Diego Costa undoubtedly gets sent-off for poking the referee two separate times in one match.

While Antonio Conte oversees this rebuild, the Manchester teams will draw all the attention, to the benefit of the Blues.
