Mason Mount scored England’s opening goal in the Under-19’s 3-0 win over Norway. Mount was one of four Chelsea youngsters in England’s starting XI.

While Chelsea have only one player in England’s senior team for this international break, the Young Lions have plenty of Blues in their squads. England’s U19 squad opened their Euro Elite Round qualifiers with a 3-0 victory. Mason Mount scored in the 33rd minute and Jay Da Silva was England’s captain in the win.

Trevoh Chalobah and Dujon Sterling rounded out Chelsea’s contributions to the England side. Chelsea had the most representation among the U19’s. Tottenham, Manchester City and Fulham all sent two players each. Only Fulham and Chelsea had more than one player in the starting XI.

Jay Da Silva and Mason Mount are two of the Academy’s best prospects for reaching the first team at Stamford Bridge. Da Silva is currently on his first – of what will surely be several – loan. He has played only a smattering of minutes since arriving at Charlton Athletic in January. His experience training with a first team and picking up whatever playing time he can will prepare him for a more robust loan next season.

Mount has been at Chelsea for over a decade, despite being only 18 years old. He is a quick and powerful dribbler, with a propensity to take the ball deep and pick out a key pass into the box. His passing and box-to-box skills show glimpses of both Cesc Fabregas and Frank Lampard.

Mount has played for Chelsea up to the U21 level and has caps at every level up to U19. This will likely be his final season at Cobham before starting a few seasons on loan. Mount is an ideal player for a season at Vitesse. He could then move to the Bundesliga before returning to England. Vitesse would find him a strong replacement for Lewis Baker, who should be returning from the wilderness after this season and join the first team in the summer.

England’s U19 squad have two more games in this cycle. They play Spain today and Belarus on Monday, and Chelsea’s complement of youngsters are sure to feature in both.
