Another young player may be permanently leaving Chelsea, but this time the offer for Nathan Ake from Bournemouth is far too good to turn down.

Chelsea fans are used to seeing young, talented players come through the academy and leave without troubling the first team. It’s extremely frustrating but in the case of Nathan Ake it may be worth it. Bournemouth have reportedly offered £20 million for his services. The Blues cannot reject such a sum of money.

The Sun claims that the burgeoning Cherries side is looking to permanently sign Ake after an impressive loan spell last season.

"Boss Eddie Howe later launched an £18m bid for the Dutch defender that month, which was instantly rejected. But Bournemouth are now set to snap-up the ex-Watford ace with a £20m-plus offer after missing out on Chelsea legend John Terry. He is expected to sign a deal with the South Coast club when he returns from his holiday in July."

Ake was on loan at the seaside for the first half of last season. However, a seriously impressive series of performances for Bournemouth saw Antonio Conte recall him in January to provide cover.

The Dutchman only played five times for the Blues as they closed in on the Premier League title, leading many to question the wisdom of cutting his loan short.

Now, Bournemouth are offering an extremely enticing £20 million to sign him permanently. There is little reason to turn Eddie Howe down.

At the age of 22, Ake may be in line for a more significant role at Stamford Bridge. However, Chelsea are close to signing Alex Sandro. Even though Ake can play both wingback and centre back, he is just being pushed further down the pecking order.

The Blues are essentially being offered £20 million for a backup player. As much as Chelsea fans want to see a youth player graduate into the first team, Ake probably won’t. It is in his best interests to move on to a club where he will start regularly. The Blues, meanwhile, receive a tidy sum in exchange.

Ake is fortunate in that he has been able to develop in the Premier League with Bournemouth and Watford. Now it is time for him to settle down in a stable environment and fulfill his potential. Chelsea do not provide him with that, Bournemouth will.

Rejecting this bid and keeping Ake at Stamford Bridge is an incredibly selfish move that will only reinforce negative sentiments about Chelsea’s handling of youth. Nathan Ake for £20 million? Do the right thing and get this deal done.
