This is a fast-moving story. Chelsea are reportedly close to agreeing a deal for Torino right-back Davide Zappacosta. Serie A fans highly rate him.

While Chelsea’s transfer deadline day has been so far characterised by failed bids and rejection, a potential deal has come out of nowhere. The Blues are apparently close to signing Davide Zappacosta, a highly-rated right-back currently at Torino.

Sky Sports are reporting via their Italian arm that the deal is on the verge of being finalised.

"Sky in Italy understand Chelsea have reached a deal to sign Torino right-back Davide Zappacosta. A fee of £23m plus add-ons has been agreed."

For those unfamiliar with the name, Zappacosta is a 25-year-old Italian national who has been with Torino for the last two seasons. He has quietly built an impressive reputation in the Serie A, being highly regarded by fans and pundits who avidly watch the league.

The news brings some minor relief to Chelsea fans. After being turned down by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and, to some extent, Fernando Llorente, all deals seemed dead in the water. However, this story has come out of left field and appears to be both credible and possible.

The Blues desperately need further options at wingback. Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso are the only two genuine candidates, meaning that injury and poor form would cause Antonio Conte all sorts of problems.

The arrival of Zappacosta will see Chelsea plug the biggest of holes in their squad. It has been a disappointing transfer deadline day so far, but this is the deal the Blues require more than any other.
