Reece James, 24, Midfield, England

James has been one of the brightest spots in this dark period, but even he was stiffed by Manchester United. That was clearly one part of their game plan, but it also helped that even with a target man in the box, James was crossing into a three versus one situation instead of a two versus one. A wing back formation may free him up a little more, but Mourinho will surely plan for that too. James will need to find solutions.

Jorginho, 5, Midfield, Italy

The debates about Jorginho have largely gone quiet and the reason seems to be because he does not really do anything too amazing or too awful anymore. During this poor run, Jorginho has simply been present. A 3-4-3 will put a lot of burden on him if he cannot get out of that funk. Jorginho will need to step up because his position is by no means guaranteed either.

Mateo Kovacic, 17, Midfield, Croatia

With N’Golo Kante injured, the title of “best player” in the squad arguably goes to Kovacic. He would certainly get most skilled. He ran the show against United and it is simply too bad no other teammate really got close to his heights. He will likely play a major role against Tottenham too, though a two man midfield will reel him in somewhat.

Marcos Alonso, 3, Left wing back, Spain

Alonso is the man for 3-4-3. He is simply a smarter wing back positionally than Emerson who trumps him physically and technically. Brute force has been getting Chelsea less and less this season and someone who actually cares to defend will be needed against Tottenham. If all Alonso ever does anymore is play left wing back, he will go out of Chelsea swinging.
