Chelsea score predictions vs. Aston Villa: Little to no confidence
Chelsea hosts Aston Villa as the Blues look to get back to winning ways, The Pride of London staff cautiously makes its predictions for the match.
If you’re a Chelsea fan and you have even a hint of confidence the Blues will win this one, you’re either lying or bat-Michael Oliver crazy. Frank Lampard’s men have been some of the most inconsistent performers in recent weeks after such a promising start to the season. Dean Smith’s red-hot Aston Villa now strolls into town just two days after Chelsea’s worst result since Maurizio Sarri’s Blues lost 6-0 to Manchester City. Regardless, we march on.
Here’s how The Pride of London staff sees this match playing out:
Varun Dani: 3-1 Chelsea
Both teams will be tired but their mindsets could not be different. Villa will enter the game with nothing to lose, Chelsea will approach the game as a must win. The Blues will win this one solely based on squad rotation, with Callum Hudson-Odoi putting in a season-changing performance.

Nathaniel Kay: 0-1 Aston Villa
This game has booby trap written all over it. Chelsea simply has to bounce back from the horror show against Arsenal. However, there are few sides worse in the division to start a revival tour against. Resolute in defence, thanks to former Gunner Emi Martinez in goal, and ruthless going forward, Aston Villa represents a worrying prospect for Lampard. Villa edge out the 1-0 victory as Blues end 2020 like the drunken relative who throws up all over the Christmas pudding.
Scott Brant: 1-1 Draw
I feel like this would be a good time to stick to my favorite 2-1 score line, but it hasn’t helped me this year. So, I will predict a boring draw in which both teams look good and each settle for a point. Tammy Abraham to continue scoring.
Kevin Peacock: 1-0 Chelsea
I think Lampard will get a reaction from his players after the Arsenal game. It won’t be pretty, but if Cesar Azpilicueta gets back in the side, a clean sheet is more likely given the fact his strengths lie in defending rather than the offense. I’m not sure where the goal will come from, probably Kurt Zouma.
Abhishek Pancholi: 2-1 Chelsea
A game we must win to silence those who must whine. Someone needs to score twice, probably Abraham, and gift the Villains just a solitary goal, no more. Time to go back to basics and go on a winning run.
Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 5-0 Chelsea
Crazy, right? It’s because I am. If we could send out our best XI and get bullied by a relegation form Arsenal, no reason we can’t get a 5-0 result against an in-form Villa side that have two games in hand. The only way now is up.
Mike Malley: 2-2 Draw
This match is shaping up to be Chelsea’s most important of the season so far. The pressure on both the squad and Lampard is climbing quickly, and with City looming just over the horizon, the Blues need to pick up three points. Unfortunately, the team’s poor form will probably prevent that from happening, especially against a talented Villa side. Things are likely going to get worse before they get better for Chelsea.
Barrett Rouen: 2-2 Draw
I have no confidence. Abraham will play and score though because that’s what he does as the most disrespected member of the youth.
Olly Smith: 4-2 Chelsea
I have so little faith after the performance put in at Arsenal … is the squad deep enough to make the (at least) eight changes needed? Time for a full rotation to bring in players that are actually hungry to run (the running/performance stats compared to Arsenal are shocking) and want to play. Ring out the changes, Frank: Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Azpilicueta, Emerson, Billy Gilmour and Hudson-Odoi.
There needs to be something drastic because this slump is threatening. While some will have to return as starters, only Abraham and Pulisic actually deserve to keep their spot in the starting XI, and as a result, both will score plus one from Emerson and Hudson-Odoi.
Gabe Henderson: 3-1 Chelsea
Lampard will turn to players like Hudson-Odoi, Cesar Azpilicueta and Billy Gilmour for this match—ya know, people who want to fight for the badge. The Blues were atrocious in their last outing and a huge performance is needed against an in-form Aston Villa before Chelsea takes on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Travis Tyler: 0-0 Draw
A heavily rotated line-up looks great, but still can’t manage to find the back of the net.
