Chelsea vs Manchester City player ratings: Ticket booked
Reece James (Right wingback): 7.5/10
It’s not that Reece James was bad on the day, quite the opposite, it’s just unlucky that he comes in as one of the Blues’ lowest ratings. James was his usual self in the FA Cup semifinal, making strong challenges and getting into some really smart defensive positions, stopping any threatening runs from the Citizens. The wingback often found himself getting forward and even created a big chance early in the first half. James put in another solid shift, he was just unlucky to have been surrounded by excellent performers. He also roughed up Fernandinho with a strong, technical challenge, making Blues fans grin from ear-to-ear.
N’Golo Kante (Central midfielder): 8/10
I have actually run out of things to say about N’Golo Kante. Based on his display on Saturday, few would know he’s struggled with injuries as of late. The Frenchman looked energetic in midfield once again, cutting out passes left and right. Kante’s presence ensured Man City would not be able to press the Blues back into their own half for large periods of time, an underrated discussion point of this contest.
Jorginho (Central midfielder): 8.5/10
Jorginho—much like James—is especially unlucky to not earn himself a Man of the Match bid. It was much of the same from midweek from the Italian regista, who earned the highest rating against Porto. Jorginho dictated play in the middle of the park throughout, earning himself some more fans in the process. He’s often been criticized at Chelsea due to his so-called connection with Maurizio Sarri, but his performances as of late have Blues supporters thanking the heavens he didn’t team up with Guardiola a few seasons ago.
Ben Chilwell (Left wingback): 9/10
This may be an unpopular rating, but I don’t really care. Chilwell was one of the best players on the pitch for Chelsea, bouncing back from a shaky start in the Champions League. The wingback came close to scoring on numerous occasions. Further, he controlled possession well and helped the Blues work their way out of pressure. Oh yeah, there was also that pass. The Englishman’s inch-perfect cross-field lob cut out Man City’s centerbacks and gave Ziyech a one-on-one with Zack Steffen, a chance in which the Moroccan made a mess of in the end.
