The reported asking price for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, arguably the best young striker in the world, is north of about £150 million pounds. Chelsea—one of the seriously interested parties—should pay that fee, no questions asked. The reason being he’s worth every last farthing.

Haaland scored 41 goals in 41 games in all competitions last season. Per my very basic statistical analysis calculations, that’s about a goal a game. He also added 12 assists. Therefore, if Haaland produces even 70 percent of what he did per game this season, he’d score 25+ goals for the Blues. With that in mind, you pay the freight and sign the young Norwegian immediately.

More from Chelsea FC Transfer Rumours

Chelsea had trouble scoring goals (to say the least) throughout the 2020/21 campaign. The Blues had lots of issues and it could have been quite costly. Now, imagine, having a Didier Drogba-level scorer leading the line in 2021/22.

Imagining a Chelsea squad with Erling Haaland in it.

Chelsea would have a world class goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, who was simply terrific in his first season. Then the Blues would have a defense that delivered clean sheets in abundance under Thomas Tuchel. It looks like most of that central defense will be back, including Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and possibly Kurt Zouma, as well. There is lots of depth there and that’s before the club may add other central defenders.

In the midfield, Haaland would have a pretty good complement to assist. N’Golo Kante the best defensive midfielder on the planet, and Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho are no slouches either. Along with emerging sensation Billy Gilmour, who provides defensive cover in the middle. On the wings, you have terrific young veterans Ben Chilwell and Reece James.

At forward to assist the young Norwegian as strikers, the inimitable Olivier Giroud and Timo Werner. At times if called upon, the Champions League winner, Kai Havertz. To put it simply, it doesn’t get much better than that, folks. In addition, at forward, you have a bit of talent out wide, as well. The aforementioned Werner can play there, Christian Pulisic is on board and on the right you have Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi. While one of the aforementioned may make his way out to another club, most will be available, and what is there will be top class.

In taking a look at what Haaland would bring to the Blues, it is quite easy to make a determination. Adding this earth-shattering scoring talent to an already loaded and Champions League-winning side could just be unfair to anyone but Chelsea and its fans. It would be a masterstroke.

Other notable big-money moves made include Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain, Paul Pogba to Manchester United and Joao Felix to Atletico Madrid. Each of those individuals has added a lot to their team and justified the price tag—Haaland would be no different. Thinking about those fees and evaluating what a top goal-scorer could accomplish for Chelsea, the verdict is clear: the club just buys the player. The Blues just need to do the deal, even if it has to pay the entire freight of £150+ million.
