Mason Mount, midfielder, £7.5m

Chelsea’s player of the season, Mason Mount has seen a significant increase in his FPL value, a rise befitting his status as Chelsea’s highest-scoring midfield player last season. Coming in at 147 points, Mount is a frequent starter under Tuchel and FPL owners can expect the same to be true this season considering just how pivotal the Englishman has become. As a player largely considered to still be improving all the time, fans should also expect more goals and assists from Mount this season, especially if a world-class center-forward could be brought in.

At £7.5m, Mount represents the best value of players in and around a similar price range, with the likes of Harvey Barnes and Paul Pogba scoring way lesser points than him, in large parts due to their own fitness issues which have never been a concern for the 22-year-old.

On a side note, Tomas Soucek of West Ham does represent fantastic value as well, with the defensive midfielder coming in at £6.0m. However, defensive midfielders, goal-scoring or not, have never been a reliable source for points in the season past due to the nature of their position.

A similar argument could be made for Ilkay Gundogan(£7.5m), with the return of Kevin De Bruyne most likely signaling an end to his incredible offensive contributions to Manchester City last season. In a season where the points would make likely have to be found from the midfield slots due to the poor selection of forwards in the game, picking good value-for-money players is more crucial than ever and Mason Mount could prove more than useful in this regard.
