Chelsea takes on Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday from Belfast, Northern Ireland. The preseason has concluded and now it’s time for the real thing. The Blues’ 2021/22 campaign begins with a trophy on the line, one of the European variety. The Euro 2020 tournament this summer means a handful of players aren’t fully up to speed just yet, but do not fret. Thomas Tuchel has plenty of talent to still select from as he looks to capture his second piece of silverware during his first calendar year as the club’s boss.

Here are The Pride of London team’s score predictions for the UEFA Super Cup:

More from Chelsea FC News

Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 1-0 Chelsea

This may look like an underwhelming scoreline, but for a first game of the season, a win and a clean sheet would build the team’s confidence for the new season. Villarreal will be resilient, the Yellows are not here by error, and they will want to prove that to themselves more than anyone else. Hakim Ziyech to score, staking his claim to start regularly for Tuchel’s Chelsea for the upcoming 2021/22 Premier League season.

Tan Yi Hao: 2-0 Chelsea

Considering that Romelu Lukaku will most likely not be through the door early enough to be given a starter role against Villarreal, I would expect a Blues side rather similar to the ones we saw last season. This means an attacking brand of football paired with an almost impregnable defence, but it also could mean more missed opportunities and other problems related to the lack of a clinical striker in the team. Nonetheless, the Champions League winners should have too much in the tank for Villarreal to handle and should come away with at least a 2-0 win.

Mike Malley: 2-0 Chelsea

The Blues have looked strong in the preseason, taking care of Bournemouth and Arsenal fairly easily before drawing Tottenham last Wednesday. Chelsea should look to continue its dominance against a weaker Villarreal side, espcially now with a complete selection of players back from the summer holiday. It would be great to see a Lukaku cameo to put the squad at full strength, but last season’s European Champions will be hoisting the Super Cup regardless.

Roshaan Kapoor: 2-1 Chelsea

I expect this game to be very cagey. A load of mistakes and miss passes might very well happen due to lack of match fitness and this being the first match of the season for both sides. Villarreal will play on the counter and expect the Blues to have a majority of the possession. Kai Havertz and Ziyech will play well and score the goals. The quality in Tuchel’s squad will shine through to win the Super Cup.

Olly Smith: 3-2 Chelsea (ET)

This is the last thing that Tuchel will want, but Villarreal is no push-over. The Yellow Submarine will force the Blues to go beyond the 90 minutes for their first piece of silverware this season. Despite an easy preseason, the intensity of the game will catch the Blues off guard. They will need to summon all of their tactical nous and drive to come from behind, equalizing in the last 15 minutes before dominating extra time and snagging the winner. Havertz, Jorginho and Ziyech to score.

Hugo Amaya: 2-1 Chelsea

An awkward match for Chelsea, but a win nevertheless. The Blues will struggle in almost all departments to get the rhythm the team achieved last season. However, this is a preseason match and their quality will show once more to win another European trophy. Goals from Timo Werner and Antonio Rudiger will prove enough to push through a difficult Villarreal.

Barrett Rouen: 2-1 Chelsea

This will be my first “just say Chelsea win” prediction of the year. Truthfully, I think Villarreal is a really good side and a well-coached unit. It also will have had the majority of its squad back in training and rested by not being in the Euros. The Blues are the total opposite and the squad is in complete disarray at the moment. Some players are still only just getting back and they have 40-something people in training at the moment.  The Chelsea squad will be a mess and it’ll play a strange hodge-podge of players who make no sense in Tuchel’s first test back. Let us all hope he remembers that the last time a manager won the Champions League with the Blues, he didn’t even make it to Christmas, so the German best start off the winning streak early.

Kevin Peacock: 1-0 Chelsea

Tuchel will start this season as he did when he first arrived in London. He’ll want clean sheets first and foremost. With Lukaku still waiting in the wings, the usual suspects scramble the only goal of the game that secures Chelsea’s second Super Cup victory.

Gabe Henderson: 2-0 Chelsea

Despite Pau Torres’ heroic effort, the Blues will simply overpower Villarreal en route to a second European trophy in a number of months. Tuchel’s men kick the campaign off with a bang.

Leighton September: 2-0 Chelsea

I think with the Lukaku signing, everyone will be on their toes and will finish off most of the chances they get. Tuchel will mostly want to settle the back line after leaking goals in preseason. Villarreal gave Manchester United a real game in the Europa League final and should not be underestimated, but Tuchel’s Blues will have more fire power to finish them off in Belfast. Havertz with a brace to seal the Super Cup for Chelsea!

Anthony Gatt: 2-0 Chelsea

After a strong preseason and spirits being high after last season’s success, I believe the players will want nothing more than to start the new season with a trophy. Make no mistake though, Villarreal is a disciplined team with a good manager. The Blues will have to be on their “A” game to capture the Super Cup. Expect a slow game with Chelsea capitalizing on a counter attack to take the lead and at full-time, win 2-0.

Abhishek Pancholi: 3-0 Chelsea

The Yellow Submarine has suffered, and made other teams suffer, through preseason. Naturally, the Yellows would be at their absolute barnstorming best against the Blues and on any other day, they would get their hands on the trophy. But not today. This Chelsea side is so far ahead in terms of match fitness and individual quality that anything other than a straightforward win would be quite a surprise. Tammy Abraham to score his last goal in a Chelsea shirt while Havertz and Werner will add two more to sink the sub.

Varun Dani: 2-1 Chelsea

Whether Tuchel views this as the final warm-up to the season or the start of the season, he’s bound to a very strong line up for it. The time for second impressions and preseason intensity is over, we’re talking about real silverware now, however insignificant it may seem in the grander scheme of things. The Blues finally win this cup for a change as Tuchel starts his first full season just as he ended the last one: with a new European trophy in the cabinet.
