Chelsea player ratings: Blues undo themselves against United
Reece James (Right Wingback): 8/10
Reece James again had a good game and looked like the most dangerous Chelsea player. With very little attacking threat from Manchester United, the England international played the majority of the game in Manchester United’s half. He troubled David de Gea throughout the game forcing him into making a few good saves. In the latter stages of the game, Reece James played on the left wingback spot, something which might happen a lot in the coming months.
Ruben Loftus Cheek (Central Midfield): 7/10
Ruben Loftus Cheek made his third Premier League start of the season but struggled a bit in the opening few minutes misplacing passes and losing the ball a bit too easily. As the game went on the English midfielder came into his rhythm and started dominating the midfield with his physical dominance. But throughout the game, his lack of will to shoot the ball from long range when given the space felt very frustrating.
Jorginho (Central Midfield): 5/10
In the first half, Jorginho looked like a man on top of his game with fluid passing and controlled the game well alongside Ruben Loftus Cheek. But the Italian midfielder undid all of his good first-half performance by gifting Manchester United the opening goal. For some outraging reason, he tried to control Bruno Fernandes’ clearance despite being the last Chelsea player. He did redeem himself a bit by converting the penalty but mistakes like these are unforgivable and Jorginho seems to do them a lot.
Marcos Alonso (Left Wingback): 6/10
The Spanish international was brought in to replace the injured Ben Chilwell and looked rusty throughout the game making some questionable decisions. Alonso played better in the second half but was too predictable and looked tired. He was replaced by Christian Pulisic in the 77th minute.
