Chelsea at Luton Town score predictions: Bounce back victory
Chelsea fans are still recovering from their side’s heartbreaking defeat on Sunday. Thomas Tuchel was bested by his compatriot, Jurgen Klopp, as Liverpool won the penalty shootout 11-10 to take home the Carabao Cup trophy. It was a solid performance from the runners-up, all things considered. The only thing missing in the wildly entertaining game of football was finishing. Regardless, the Blues will now look to bounce back on the road in the FA Cup against Luton Town.
Kenilworth Road will play host to a highly anticipated rematch of a 3-1 bout during the 2020/21 campaign. Tammy Abraham scored a hat-trick on the night for Frank Lampard’s side. If the reigning Champions of both Europe and the World seem like a much stronger side now than the one that beat the Hatters back in January of 2021, it’s because they are a much better team. That doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things though. The Blues have their work cut out for them as they prepare to take on a Luton squad that’s currently in a promotion playoff place in the Championship table. This is the stage where the magic of the Cup really begins to set in, as well.
Here is how The Pride of London team sees Wednesday’s FA Cup contest playing out:
Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 0-1 Chelsea
The Blues will need to make a statement in this game. This was Lampard’s last game in charge of Chelsea and he won that game convincingly, 3-1. The Blues have gotten to the last two FA Cup finals, and they lost both, they’ll want to get to this one and win it too.
Kevin Peacock: 0-2 Chelsea
These cup games are rarely as easy as they appear and as we know, Chelsea can sometimes struggle in this kind of tie. However, with the disappointment of losing Sunday’s final in the past, the Blues will have plenty of motivation and quality to secure the win.
Barrett Rouen: 0-4 Chelsea
We’ll play mainly youth, who won’t be likely to take it easy like some older players would these days. They’ll help us recover from the sting of the Carabao Cup final loss.
Gabe Henderson: 0-2 Chelsea
Luton is a quality side, despite being in the Championship, and I’ve been saying since this tie was drawn that it won’t be easy for the Blues. Kenilworth Road is a historic football ground that will be absolutely rocking for this contest, despite it being a midweek cup clash. There is a lot of fatigue and a few injuries within Tuchel’s ranks, so the visitors won’t be at their best. Nevertheless, I expect a side as quality as Chelsea to show up and take care of business. The Carabao Cup final loss means there is added importance on this FA Cup run. This is the Blues’ best chance at completing a treble this season, so it’s going to be of heightened importance.
As my esteemed colleague conveniently placed above me often says, “just win.”
Tan Yi Hao: 0-2 Chelsea
Luton Town has been a decent side in the Championship this season, currently sitting sixth in the second tier of the English football pyramid. On the other hand, the past week has been one filled with uncertainty and heartbreak for the coaches, players and fans of Chelsea Football Club. It would take a massive show of character from the players to pick up where they left off on Sunday and, in their own words, “go again,” Two to nil—to the good guys—Romelu Lukaku and Mason Mount to score for the Blues.
Bo Martin: 0-2 Chelsea
The Blues secure another victory, but the scoreline will not tell the tale of how close this one is in the end. After an exhausting cup final against Liverpool, Chelsea isn’t quite up to the energy Luton’s boys are bringing. Nevertheless, the Blues score one early in the second half and secure the victory in the final 15’, allowing their faithful to exhale and look forward to the next round.
Mike Malley: 0-2 Chelsea
It will be hard for the Blues to bounce back mentally from such a frustrating result in the Carabao Cup final, but dispatching of the Hatters should still be a relatively easy task. Tuchel will probably put out a strong starting XI, but I wouldn’t expect a high-scoring obliteration of the lower league side. Blowing out lesser opposition simply hasn’t been Chelsea’s MO this season and I don’t think that’s going to change in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
