Heading into the break: Chelsea Women get Champions League draw

On Monday afternoon, the Blues received arguably the toughest draw of any of the members of Pot A. Hayes and Chelsea along with their English counterparts in the Champions League this season, Arsenal have to go through one challenging gauntlet in order to advance into the knockout stages. As a part of Group A, the Blues will take on two of the most ambitious clubs in women’s European football, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain along with nine-time Albanian league champions, Vllaznia.

While Real Madrid broke the dreams of Manchester City through its new addition of Caroline Weir, PSG is the opposition that no doubt stands out to Blues fans following the drama that was 2019 at the Stade Jean-Bouin in Paris. In a ruckus environment in the French capital, the Blues had their backs against the walls after Katrin-Berger’s worst nightmare of an own goal came to fruition. Off of the right foot of captain Karen Carney, Maren Mjelde glided gracefully in between the PSG defense to drill the ball into the back of the net in stoppage time, clinching the victory on aggregate.
