Reece James might be back sooner than first expected with England at the World Cup, but, sadly, Ben Chilwell has ruled himself out of the tournament after what’s being described as a significant injury. Meanwhile Chelsea risk losing two young stars of the academy. Here are The Pride of London’s thoughts.

First of all, it is obviously a real shame that Chilwell is unable to fulfil a dream of playing in the illustrious competition with the Three Lions. The leftback is clearly good enough to be on the plane, with his dedication for a successful re-emergence only blighted by bad luck.

Any suggestion that the former Leicester City player was overused is nonsense, he was visibly handled with care. Though many players in his position could have been rushed back. You must only look at the amount of matches Marc Cucurella played where Chilwell was not, or compare minutes on the field of play between the two to know that management of the latter was regardful.

On social media, Twitter to be exact in respect to The Pride of London’s below embed, the 25-year-old revealed that, unfortunately, he won’t be in Qatar with Gareth Southgate’s men. He reassured fans, however, that he shall endeavour to return to the Stamford Bridge pitch as soon as possible as a Blue. He is well-liked by the CFC support in general, from what I have seen and heard.

On their official website, chelseafc.com, the club issued a statement on the defender:

"Following the injury sustained in our recent game against Dinamo Zagreb, Ben has undergone a scan on his hamstring. Results show that Ben has suffered a significant injury and the defender is unfortunately expected to miss the World Cup.Ben will now begin a rehabilitation programme with the club’s medical department."

Elsewhere, James’s hopes of featuring at the World Cup have taken a boost. The athlete himself will urge Southgate to include him on the international roster. That is even if the versatile rightback cannot appear at the start. Evening Standard claim that James is confident he’ll go, and his recovery is apparently ahead of schedule, too. Let’s hope for ‘RJ’ that he is there in some capacity.

Chelsea risk losing two Academy stars

Manchester City are attempting to lure a starlet away from the Blues, according to this report. Jude Soonsup-Bell is a promising forward, from all accounts, but his current contract expires at the end of the season. Midfielder Charlie Webster could also be out of the door as he’s declined to extend his existing deal.
