Graham Potter’s position at Stamford Bridge is reportedly under threat if his Chelsea team’s results don’t immediately improve.

Will the CFC hierarchy act if the Blues don’t start winning in all competitions, especially the Premier League? Yes, 100 per cent.

We know Todd Boehly is particularly decisive after what happened with the widely revered Thomas Tuchel. Some described the decision to sack Tuchel as impulsive. Boehly naturally held prerogative and generally holds sway on Fulham Road, whether the fan base likes it or not.

Should Potter’s side maintain inconsistencies yet sporadic and much-needed EPL victories in order to qualify for the Champions League, or close by, the former Brighton & Hove Albion man will go nowhere. The ‘longterm project’ shall continue. If Chelsea become more vulnerable and lose an increasing amount of winnable matches – Potter’s fate essentially becomes sealed.

In fact, talk of the Potter Project being prematurely ended – or promptly, depending on your view of the head coach – by CFC’s owners is now starting to emerge. The Englishman surely needs more than just a few months to develop a team – a couple of years at least, more realistically – otherwise judging him can only be untimely.

Although, with all due respect to Potter, nobody can survive at the west London club unless they are regularly winning and challenging for all available trophies. We saw that scenario with icon Frank Lampard.

Following a fairly widespread claim that ex-Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino would be interested taking over at the Blues helm, it is now suggested that, if CFC don’t undertake a change in fortunes, Potter could lose his job in the new year. Essentially these stories are possibly merely early conjecture, yet Pochettino is supposedly ‘pushing for the role behind the scenes’.

Now Chelsea are considering an alternative with the January transfer window opening shortly. Borussia Dortmund attacker Youssoufa Moukoko’s name has been mentioned by trusted journalist David Ornstein.
