£13.1m a year package lined up to lure elite manager if Chelsea decide to sack Graham Potter
Graham Potter will continue as the Chelsea boss and his job is safe for now. Potter has come under tremendous pressure as poor results pile up with CFC languishing in 10th place. If results do not improve and Todd Boehly decides to sack Potter, Zinedine Zidane could emerge as a candidate to take over.
Chelsea are still far off their best form and even far off from a top four place. The Blues have won just two of their last 15 games under Potter and lost the first leg of UEFA Champions League round of 16 against Borussia Dortmund.
The 1-0 loss to Southampton at home was unfathomable, followed by an irate reaction from the Chelsea faithful at Stamford Bridge made the situation worse. Even though Potter has been appointed for a long term rebuild, results not going his way are making the matters worse. On top of that, the team is lacking the cohesion and aura that binds the squad together.
Chelsea trying to lure Zinedine Zidane to replace Graham Potter
The fans are divided on Potter’s continuation with a faction of supporters demanding a sack mid-season while another faction is patient with Potter. Boehly and Behdad Egbhali continue to show their trust in Potter but if results do not improve, CFC could seriously consider Potter’s future.
A number of managers have already been linked with the Chelsea job. Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has been linked but reportedly he has turned down the chance to coach Chelsea.
According to Caught Offside, former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is on the radar of Chelsea. The three time Champions League winning coach could be offered a mouthwatering deal to entice him to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea will be prepared to offer Zidane £13.1 million a year to bring him to the club if they eventually decide to part ways with Potter.
Zidane has been out of a job since leaving Real Madrid in 2021 and could soon be open to management. Premier League will be an exciting opportunity and Zidane could soon receive calls from Chelsea, as everything depends on Potter’s ability to turn this situation around.
Chelsea next face Spurs and everyone will be expecting a bounce back from the horrid loss of Southampton. Reece James, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Thiago Silva and Raheem Sterling missed the Saints clash but will be available for selection for the Spurs clash. N’Golo Kante has also returned to training but it is unclear at this point if he will play a part against Antonio Conte’s side.
