Manchester City, Liverpool and Man United all reportedly want to sign a Chelsea star this summer. Will a Premier League rival get their hands on Mateo Kovacic? Should the Blues attempt to keep the Croatian technician?

According to our FanSided affiliate, 90min, those three giant English teams are in for Kovacic. It is no surprise whatsoever to see sides of that stature interested in the midfielder. At present, the outlet claim that the trio are merely ‘exploring’ the respective possibilities of signing the Chels’ man. Supposedly, the 28-year-old is seen as a ‘Frenkie de Jong alternative’, which also makes perfect sense. When we get to the summer, ‘Kova’ will only have one year remaining on his current deal in west London.

But, why are these big six outfits after Kovacic and should that apparent news be taken as a rather unsubtle hint by CFC chiefs? The answer is simple: the Croat is fairly unique and offers a repertoire of skills that few others do. The adroitness he shows in the middle of pitch is often key when Chelsea play well. The former Real Madrid player would challenge any starting XI. However, his fitness record and, possibly, mobility are likely giving the Blues reservations.

A potentially wonderful gesture and footballing day at Chelsea

An exclusive from Evening Standard caught PoL’s eye this past week. The Blues are to host an all-star match at Stamford Bridge after the 2022/23 season ends. Following talks on the matter, Todd Boehly is said to have ‘provisionally’ greenlit charity Football for Ukraine to arrange for famous professionals to compete in an ‘American-style’ friendly at Chelsea’s ground.

The fixture would feature Ukrainian Premier League stars such as CFC’s Mykhailo Mudryk, Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko, Everton’s Vitaliy Mykolenko and Illya Zabarnyi of Bournemouth. If the go-ahead is given and terms are agreed, the match will take place in the first two weeks of August. Though, it will occur before the 2023/24 EPL campaign kicks off on the 12th of that month.
