Chelsea’s midfield overhaul is expected to continue this summer. The signing of Enzo Fernandez is just one piece of the jigsaw as another fresh face is expected to arrive through the doors of Stamford Bridge. Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia is considered a target for the summer transfer window and there are chances that the Blues will launch strong attempts to sign the youngster.

Chelsea sold Jorginho to Arsenal on the winter transfer deadline day. The futures of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mateo Kovacic are also hanging in the air as they could leave Chelsea in the summer. Conor Gallagher is another midfielder that could be sold as CFC are open to listening to offers for the Englishman. N’Golo Kante is expected to sign a new deal with the Blues and extend his stay but even after extending, CFC will be left bare minimum options in the midfield.

Denis Zakaria’s loan deal expires at the end of the season and Chelsea does not seem interested in activating the £30 million buy option. Youngster Carney Chukwuemeka has impressed in cameo appearances but he still needs to be polished to be able to challenge for starting roles regularly.

Chelsea interested in Romeo Lavia

The Blues will dip their toes in the transfer market with the aim to sign a midfielder and Southampton’s Lavia remains a target. The former Manchester City man has been on Chelsea’s shortlist since last summer and as per Fabrizio Romano, the Blues launched a verbal summer transfer deadline day offer for the young Belgian. CFC then instead signed Zakaria on loan.

"On deadline day, Chelsea made an important bid for Romeo Lavia. It was close to £50 million, it was a verbal proposal. Then they decided to go for Zakaria on loan but Chelsea remain interested in Romeo Lavia.Joe Shields is now at Chelsea, from Man City to Southampton and now at Chelsea. He knows the player so well. CFC want to sign top talents and he [Lavia] is highly rated. Keep an eye on Romeo Lavia in the summer. (via Romano’s YouTube Channel)"

Lavia is one of the most promising starlets in the Premier League and has excelled this season, making 19 Premier League appearances and sitting at the base of the Southampton midfield. Signing Lavia will allow Chelsea to add a different profile to their midfield. With Lavia sitting in the midfield, Fernandez will have more freedom and allowing him to make those perfectly weighted passes to the front more frequently.

Chelsea will face competition from Premier League sides Manchester United and Arsenal, who have also been linked with Lavia.
