Chelsea signed Kai Havertz in 2020 for a record sum of €80 million from Bayer Leverkusen. He was widely regarded as one of the most promising youngsters in Europe with a very high ceiling. However, his performances have dipped and raised concerns over long term future at the club.

This season, Havertz has largely operated as a striker under Graham Potter, netting seven goals in 26 Premier League games. Havertz is not a typical striker but likes to play slightly off right and occupies spaces of an inside right forward. The lack of a focal point in Chelsea’s attack is affecting Havertz’s game and he is not able to provide the desired threat that a clinical No.9 would provide.

The hype around the German has dwindled to an extent and his bland performances have often raised concerns and angered the fans over his inclusion in the team. Potter doesn’t count on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and without a reliable striker, Potter uses Havertz in that role.

Kai Havertz will look to leave Chelsea this summer

When Thomas Tuchel was the Chelsea manager, Havertz was able to fit into the German manager’s system and he did deliver from time to time. Havertz and Tuchel formed an amicable relationship at Stamford Bridge, so when Tuchel was appointed as the new Bayern Munich boss, rumors surfaced about Havertz wanting to reunite with his former boss at Bayern.

Havertz’s future remains uncertain at Chelsea. It was reported earlier that Havertz will look to leave in the summer if CFC fail to secure Champions League football for next season as Champions League football is very important to him. With the arrival of Christopher Nkunku and a possible permanent deal for Joao Felix, Havertz will not be a guaranteed starter once the Blues sign a competent striker.

The 23 year old is still touted to leave in the summer but he won’t be reuniting with Tuchel at Bayern Munich. According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Havertz is not a transfer target for Bayern despite his good relationship with Tuchel.

Tuchel took over the reins at Bayern after Julian Nagelsmann was sacked. The former CFC manager is trying to bring Anthony Barry to Allianz Arena. Barry has been part of the first team coaching staff but has indicated that he would like to join Tuchel at Bayern. So far, the Bavarians have opened talks with Chelsea for Barry but not provided any compensation as the Englishman remains under contract at Stamford Bridge.
