Wesley Fofana

Fofana was equally as excellent as his centerback partner. He made four clearances, one blocked shot, 3/3 tackles won, and one last-man tackle. He also completed 52/55 passes, won 10/11 duels he contested, completed 2/2 dribbles, and won four fouls. Fofana, like Koulibaly, was putting out fires for 90 minutes.

N’Golo Kante rested for Real Madrid

The former Everton manager mentioned that the lineup was selected with the Real Madrid game in mind. This is great because the Frenchman just returned from injury not long ago, so severely limiting his minutes is the right call for now. It seems Kante will struggle to play more than one game per week from now on and that’s perfectly understandable.

The most important thing is that Chelsea should be beating Wolves with or without Kante, but Kante is crucial to the Blues if they are even going to have a chance to progress from the quarterfinal of the Champions League. The west London club won the Champions league semifinal tie against Real Madrid in 2020/21, a tie in which Kante won Man Of The Match awards in both legs of the tie.
