Romeo Lavia

You know a player is special when he manages to make a splash despite playing for a team that has won six games all season. A product of Anderlecht academy, Romeo Lavia was picked up by Manchester City as a 16 year old, which in itself speaks volumes about his talent.

The Southampton midfielder is yet another example of the Saints’ commendable scouting department. And Barring James Ward-Prowse, he has been a class above his teammates all season.

Lavia shares numerous similarities to the midfield duo discussed above, but he brings to the table an important differentiating factor. Unlike Rice and Caicedo, the 19 year old is well-at-home in the first phase of the build-up.

The Southampton midfielder offers more on the ball in deeper areas as compared to his West Ham and Brighton counterparts, be it through his incisive passing or calmness under pressure.
Full of skills and tricks, Lavia can also dribble his way out of trouble or burst through opposition lines when required.

The midfielder’s arsenal also includes a mean half-turn, allowing him to spin his opponent before progressing the ball forward. The Belgian would be a seamless fit at Chels‘, be it as a holding midfielder or as a No.8 tasked with heading into advanced positions. It’s quite apparent that the Blues aren’t strapped for choice when it comes to potential options for their midfield vacancy, here’s to hoping that they pick the correct fit.
