Chelsea and Mason Mount have been at a standoff for the latter’s contract talks. The Englishman has entered the last 12 months of his deal and now seems to head towards an exit after extension talks stalled.

Mount earns around £80,000 per week and is not even in the top 20 earners at Chelsea. The Blues were eager to tie Mount to a new deal and offer him a deserved bump in salary. Mount wanted a salary similar to what his England teammates earned at their respective clubs. Over the course of last season, Chelsea and Mount have met on multiple occasions to discuss an extension but an agreement was never reached.

Sooner it became clear that if a new deal couldn’t be signed, Mount will be available in the summer transfer window. Some of Europe’s best clubs came knocking as they had the opportunity to get their hands on one of the top attacking midfielders in the continent. Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Bayern Munich hold an interest in Mount.

Mason Mount rejected three Chelsea contract offers

So far, Mount has rejected three contracts offered by Chelsea. According to The Times, three contract offers were made, which were rejected by the Englishman. The first two offers were made back in August and September 2022, where Mount would sign a five year deal with an option for one more year.

The third offer was made in February 2023 which would see the Englishman sign a one year extension with a significant increase in wages. The one year extension would buy Chelsea more time to negotiate with Mount as the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal were already crawling on Chelsea’s backs. A one year extension would allow the Blues to ward off interest this summer or at least give them some advantage in negotiations

Meanwhile, Manchester United have approached CFC for Mount, as per Sky Sports. Chelsea are stubborn on their valuation and want around £70 million for the 24 year old. However, the Red Devils do not agree with Chelsea’s absurd valuation and want to seal the transfer in the region of £50 million.

Incoming CFC manager Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of Mount and wants to keep him at Stamford Bridge but with each passing day, the possibility of Mount staying is dimming. Personal terms won’t be a problem as Mount is attracted by United’s project under Erik ten Hag but reaching an agreement with Chelsea will be tricky given CFC’s high valuation.
