Chelsea could plan £60 million striker swap deal by offloading £34m outcast
Chelsea are looking to sign a potent striker to bolster their attack and a host of names have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez has been on CFC’s list and now they could propose a possible striker swap.
Nicolas Jackson is on the way to join Chelsea as medicals have been scheduled and personal terms have been agreed. The striker will definitely add depth to the attack but Mauricio Pochettino still seems determined to bring another forward to Stamford Bridge. CFC struggled in front of the goal without a renowned striker in the squad, scoring just 38 goals in the Premier League.
There have been many big name strikers that are linked with a move to Chelsea with the likes of Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen, Dusan Vlahovic and Martinez linked. It is unlikely that Daniel Levy will sanction a transfer for Kane that too to a direct Premier League rival. Pochettino is a huge admirer of his compatriot Martinez and wants to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez is keen to join Chelsea
According to The Express, Pochettino wants Martinez as the traditional No.9 at the club. The 2022 World Cup winner is keen to team up with his compatriot Pochettino at Stamford Bridge. The 25 year old is valued at £60 million by Inter Milan and Kai Havertz’s sale should give CFC the necessary funds to launch an offer.
Romelu Lukaku is not a part of Chelsea’s plans next season and the Blues are willing to sell the Belgian. He spent the last season on loan at Inter and wants to continue his career with the Nerazzurri. Lukaku has already rejected an offer from Al Hilal as he doesn’t want to move to Saudi Arabia and wants to stay in Europe.
Inter Milan’s fragile finances mean they cannot afford to sign the striker permanently at this moment. CFC and the Nerazzurri have held meetings to discuss Lukaku’s future. The Serie A outfit needs to raise funds first which is why they want the Belgian on loan. However, the Blues want €40 million (£34.3 million) for the 30 year old and will not sanction another loan deal, as per Sport Witness.
With CFC wanting Martinez and Inter eyeing a return for Lukaku, a striker swap could be arranged. The West London outfit will have to pay some amount of money and offer Lukaku in exchange of the Argentine striker. With Inter not having enough funds to buy Lukaku outright and CFC managing to offload the Belgian, a striker swap should work for all parties.
