The Moises Caicedo saga rumbles on. Chelsea have not yet managed to close the deal for their top transfer target Caicedo as talks with Brighton and Hove Albion continue. CFC are planning a major midfield revolution and signing Caicedo is central to the plans of Mauricio Pochettino.

The Blues made an attempt to sign Caicedo in the January transfer window but Brighton were reluctant to sell the Ecuadorian. Caicedo ended up signing a new deal with the Seagulls and had a gentlemen’s agreement with Roberto De Zerbi that he would be allowed to leave if an adequate offer arrived in the summer.

Chelsea have been the most interested party and have been in discussions with Brighton for the 21 year old midfielder. The talks have carried on for weeks as Chelsea negotiate the transfer fee along with the details of the deal and add-ons. Caicedo has already given the green light and is ready to move to Stamford Bridge.

According to The Times journalist Tom Roddy, CFC want to get the deal done in the limit of £80 million. Brighton have been very stubborn with their demands as they hope to pocket a fee of £100 million from Caicedo’s sale. De Zerbi also made it clear that Caicedo could leave if certain conditions are met.

There have also been reports of talks stalling between CFC and Brighton but as things stand the West London outfit remain determined to sign the 21 year old. With Brighton not budging, Chelsea may have to up their offer after two offers being rejected with the latest one being £70 million plus add-ons. On the other hand, CFC are also targeting other midfielders as the midfield looks deprived of experience. Cesare Casadei and Andrey Santos are promising but lack the necessary experience of playing week in and week out in the Premier League. CFC need more than just Caicedo to form a reliable and competent midfield.

According to Evening Standard, CFC are open to signing two midfielder this summer. The Blues have sounded out Mohammed Kudus, who represents an attacking midfield option for CFC. In central midfield, Romeo Lavia and Gabri Veiga are the names that Chelsea are considering.

Brighton are playing hardball over Caicedo and CFC may have to yield to a certain extent as a deal under £80 million looks impossible. In the meantime, CFC should also pursue other midfield targets as the engine room needs several reinforcements.
