The Premier League starts tonight, but unless you’re an Arsenal or Coventry fan, the real excitement comes with the start of your FPL journey as you look to build on last season.
Chelsea face Fulham on Matchday 1 in the final game of the weekend, so filling all three of your Chelsea slots could leave your score looking a little light by Sunday evening. However, if the Blues deliver at Craven Cottage, those three players could make your FPL team look very healthy come Tuesday morning.
The FPL countdown is over, and with only three Chelsea players allowed in your squad, every selection matters. We pick out five of the best options at Stamford Bridge to consider for your team.
The Chelsea stars to consider:
Joao Pedro - £7.5M
The most-selected Chelsea player, and the second-most selected player in the Premier League behind Erling Haaland, João Pedro could be a major FPL asset and has a genuine opportunity to challenge for the Golden Boot. Aside from the trip to Arsenal, Chelsea have four winnable fixtures in which the Brazilian No.9 could find the net multiple times.
The chance for assists with Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers either side are also significant factors in choosing Pedro as the main selection of Chelsea options.
Enzo Fernandez - £7M
Enzo Fernández scored 157 FPL points last season, second only to João Pedro, after registering 15 goals and seven assists. He will be hoping to replicate that form this campaign, although a major question mark hangs over his future.
His late return from the World Cup could also see him miss out on a starting role against Fulham, having featured in just one pre-season game.
By September, will the Argentine still be pulling on a Chelsea shirt at Stamford Bridge, or will he have moved further north to join Manchester City?
Morgan Rogers - £7.5M
In his last year at Aston Villa, Morgan Rogers scored 164 points in the FPL and stats that warranted the big money move. The Chelsea new boy will want to hit the ground running and is expected to start from the off on Monday night.
Rogers’ versatility could make him an appealing FPL option under Xabi Alonso, particularly if he is given freedom to operate in advanced areas. His ability to contribute both goals and assists gives him multiple routes to points, while his expected starting role against Fulham makes him an attractive option in the opening run of fixtures.
Maxence Lacroix - £6M
Featured in our series on the best options under £6.0m, the defender is selected for his defensive contributions rather than his attacking output. Clean sheets, combined with the occasional goal from set pieces, could make the new signing from Crystal Palace a valuable FPL asset.
He could prove to be a real gem for FPL managers who cannot afford the likes of Gabriel or Virgil van Dijk.
Valentin Barco - £5.5M
English fans, don’t hate me for this, but the Argentine World Cup semi-final villain may have a big future, particularly if Enzo Fernández leaves and Romeo Lavia cannot stay fit. He can also play on the left as a wing-back, with assists being one of his strengths.
His hot-headedness, rather than his hair colour, and discipline could hurt his FPL points tally should he earn a regular starting role under Xabi Alonso.
