Over half a year into his Chelsea tenure, it has been revealed that Alejandro Garnacho has a sell-on clause in his Chelsea contract that benefits Man United. Perhaps selling him isn't as good news as Chelsea fans once thought.
There is talk that Chelsea are already considering Alejandro Garnacho's future despite signing him less than 12 months ago.Â
Garnacho arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer having fallen out with former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim.Â
The winger joined the Blues for £40 million but hopes he would nail down his spot and show United they made a big mistake have quickly faded. Garnacho's consistently lacklustre performances so far have seen him fail to live up to expectations.Â
The South American is struggling to produce down the left flank, and with just one goal in his last 16 Premier League appearances, it remains to be seen how long Liam Rosenior will persist.Â
Consequently, rumours the 21-year-old could be offloaded a lot sooner than when his contract expires in 2032 are far from surprising.Â
But even if Chelsea recouped what they paid United last year, they're unlikely to pocket it all due to a crafty clause their rivals negotiated into Garnacho's contract.Â
Alejandro Garnacho's Chelsea contract clause revealedÂ
Not only did Amorim not favour Garnacho, but his exit, because he is a home grown player, represented 100 per cent profit on United's books.Â
And not only did the Red Devils bank a considerable fee then, according to the Manchester Evening News, United's sporting department, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, also successfully included a 10 per cent sell-on clause.Â
A potential expiry date of the clause has not been reported, so it's fair to assume that it will be in place for the duration of Garnacho's contract.Â
Therefore, should Chelsea cash in on the struggling Argentine, United will receive another fee that will contribute positively toward on their financial reports.
Chelsea unlikely to pull the trigger on Garnacho sale just yet
Although Chelsea aren't known for their patience with players, even they may not be so quick to ditch Garnacho.Â
He definitely hasn't had the best of starts to life in London, but he's still young and clearly has the confidence in his ability to turn it around.Â
While Rosenior may not view Garnacho as his team's first choice left winger, the forward could benefit from a more experienced player coming in; someone who would provide the competition to encourage the former United youngster to kick on.Â
During his first nine months at Chelsea, Garnacho, who earns around £7 million per year, has scored just six goals in 29 games in all competitions.
