Alejandro Garnacho just sent Chelsea critics a Champions League message

Alejandro Garnacho recently made his Chelsea debut and admittedly, it was in less than ideal conditions. The Blues were a goal ahead in the closing stages, but they were completely undone by an old-fashioned, but still reliable, long throw-in.

So, the main takeaway from the match wasn't that Garnacho made his Chelsea debut, but it was instead about how Chelsea fumbled two points. And it can be put down to exactly that, two points dropped, rather than a point gained.

If Enzo Maresca wants to be taken seriously as a potential Premier League champion, these are the games he needs to be winning. The bread and butter, ordinary, everyday games against mid-table clubs.

If Chelsea can't pick up all three points in such games, they risk falling back into old habits. They would be no better than those mid-table teams, unless they sharpen up.

Alejandro Garnacho is already receiving critics

After the game against Brentford, Jamie Redknapp was overly critical of Alejandro Garnacho. In fact, he even blamed the Argentina international for the Brentford equalizer, rightfully claiming that he should have been marking Carvalho.

But Garnacho wasn't, and he scored at the far post.

Other than that, though, Garnacho's debut was bright. Chelsea fans have every reason to feel confident about his signing going forward, and it could certainly pay dividends.

Chelsea returns to the Champions League this week, in yet another opportunity for Garnacho to make a name for himself. He has proven to be the man for big occasions in the past, and there is no bigger club occasion than the Champions League.

Alejandro Garnacho is focused on one thing Chelsea critics aren't

Obviously, Chelsea and Bayern Munich have history in the Champions League. So, this fixture is one for the ages. But gone are the historic figures of this matchup, the likes of Didier Drogba, Arjen Robben and José Mourinho. Now, new heroes must emerge from the rubble.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Alejandro Garnacho said to Chelsea fans: "Very happy to wear this [Chelsea] shirt for the first time. See you Wednesday in [the Champions League]. Thanks for the support, blues."

Garnacho, then, is more excited about the future than dwelling on the past. And so he should be. Redknapp's comments weren't harsh, but Garnacho shouldn't concern himself with them too much.

A bright performance at the Allianz Arena will be enough to make everyone forget about the dying moment of his Chelsea debut.
