The transfer window is set to draw to a close tomorrow. Chelsea should be happy with how they have utilised this summer to reinforce various positions in their squad. Nevertheless, few would have thought that there were any more major twists left to come with the roster mostly set. But life's never straightforward at Stamford Bridge. There always has to be a bit of drama and that's the way we like it.
That is exactly what has happened in the last 24 hours. Nicolas Jackson, who was all set to join Bayern Munich on a season-long loan and arrived in Germany to complete the move, is now facing uncertainty over his future.
Chelsea defeated Fulham 2-0 at home on Saturday, but Liam Delap came out of the match with an injury that will keep him on the sidelines for quite some time. Six weeks at the very minimum. As a result, the Blues have to re-evaluate their options up front, thus, the Jackson dilemma.
That said, reports have now emerged suggesting that Chelsea can still part with the Senegalese striker but only on one condition. According to The Guardian, Jackson will not be allowed to depart on loan. The Blues are willing to sanction a permanent exit but Bayern Munich must pay €65 million for the 24-year-old.
Chelsea will let Nicolas Jackson leave this summer on only one condition
Bayern Munich, who were close to securing the Senegalese striker on a loan deal with an option to buy, will now have to pursue a permanent transfer instead if they wish to continue their interest in the player. An obligation to buy next season is another option that cannot be ruled out either.
Chelsea are also believed to be looking at other striker options as a last-minute effort to bring in someone as a replacement for Delap. Sporting CP forward Conrad Harder is a possible candidate.
Jackson hasn’t featured in any of the matches for Chelsea in the Premier League this season. He will have to compete for his spot in the starting XI, as it appears he is currently behind Joao Pedro in the pecking order. The Brazilian is in exceptional form, having already scored two goals and provided as many assists in three matches.
